May 21
Has been a very, very good month! Luke's has been talking more and more...
• I explained that Joel would be having a birthday (May 15), and we'd have cake and blow out candles and friends over, etc., etc. and when I finished he looked at me and said "That will be be fun!"
• Ms. P. (assistant at school) said to Luke that she was going to get the bean bags for physio and Luke piped up "I'll go get them!" and on another occasion, when they were outside in the playground, Luke looked at Ms. P and said " Ms. P, watch me, watch me jump!" She was near tears :).
• I've lost my voice so cannot sing (yeah, yeah, can't sing with a voice either, lol)... so last night I asked Luke to sing and he sang the whole song of "Jesus Loves Me" all by himself. It was amazing.
• Joel and Luke were fighting over a toy and Luke held onto it as Joel was trying to wrestle it from his hands and Luke yelled "I got it first!!!" Go Luke! Joel has always been a bit "assertive" and watching Luke stick up for himself is a whole new thing...
• Ms. S. (ABA teacher) asked Luke a whole bunch of "Where?" questions and he answered all but one. (example: Where do you find a bathtub and a toilet? Bathroom. Where do you go toboganning? Sun Peaks? Where is Bella and Buffy? Mile High).
• Every night when we pray I asked him to thank God for.... and he fills in the blanks. What's been neat is most nights he comes up with a new idea like "chocolate chips" or "Ms. P." or "candycanes" or "banks". You never know what he's going to say, lol.

He's just got over his third round of a cough, and seems to be on the mend. I, however, am now sick, but the boys are getting easier and easier to manage since we've put up the trampoline and bought Joel a basketball net for his birthday. It's cute to watch them take turns throwing the ball, and it's wonderful to see how compassionate Joel is becoming... he'll give the ball to Luke even though Luke is often distracted... and is very patient with him (for the most part). It's sweet. I hear them talking to eachother more and more, and while sometimes Luke's lack of answer or incorrect answer can be frustrating, Joel takes it in stride for the most part. There is nothing better than watching them both "play" together... like last night they were "throwing/sliding" cars down the hallway for quite a while together, or Luke will watch Joel play Wii for long periods of time... picking up on how to play the game (it's still quite beyond him... but we show him how to play as often as we can and if it holds his interest long enough... he's length of interest is longer and longer every time).

Luke has been accepted to the Chris Rose Therapy Centre for 2 days a week in the fall. Just need to iron out the payment details between them and the Kamloops Christian School. This 2 days a week will cost us $250.00 a month out of our $600 a month from the autism funding program. I plan to use $120-200 for Insight Support Services (the "play/social therapy") and the remainder for a 3-hour a week ABA continuation with Ms. S. if she's available and it works out for her schedule.

I received a call from the Oxygen Therapy place and it looks like we'll start on a Monday (perhaps July 4?). Ms. F. will be sending me a schedule via email one of these days. I mentioned we were flexible, whether early morning or afternoon sessions. I am hoping she takes into account the commute from Abbotsford to Richmond and that it's not a stressful drive. We shall see.

I bought a new lens for my camera... thanks to my photographer friend's advice, and I'm so pleased with the speed. It was hard to capture Luke's "essence" when he'd move before I could get a good shot, or the smile would be gone. Now I have many great photos and am happy to have documentation of the real Luke!
