October 17
Had a few appointments a while back. The first was with Dr. Bratt and it was very reassuring. She was a little shocked by the seizures, but totally agreed it was most likely the wheat. She was very kind and gave us some enzymes that combat wheat (apparently the ones we were using were not for wheat.) Oops. She also gave us a homeopathic drop kit which will reset or fix any issues that Luke may have had from 0-18 months. We're into it for 2 weeks and have not yet seen any major changes, but will continue with the drops. She also wanted to get a copy of the EEG results from Children's Hospital, just to see what they had to say... as the reports are pretty self-explanatory, however for whatever reason we never get a copy ourselves.

In the afternoon we went to Dr. Darren Sass for an eye check up and new exercises with the prism glasses. Apparently Luke's eyesight is better, but we won't change the prescription in his glasses at this point. Luke only wears his glasses to preschool right now. We spent two hours in the "exercise" room which was a little painful. Luke's dad had to leave. Luke was acting up... seeing what he could get away with, which was incredibly frustrating. And the exercises seemed difficult even for an adult, so it was a little exasperating. I'm glad that only happens twice a year... it was exhausting. No one needs to sit for 2 hours and watch their kid fail at everything they attempt to teach him. It left me feeling very sad. Fortunately, we got copies and instructions so Ms. S., our great BI, has been working with Luke and getting him to take baby steps with them, so we all know he will eventually succeed.

The EEG went very well. Even keeping Luke up until 11:00pm the night before was okay. Just had to feed him and he'd be preoccupied with the food all night - haha. A small bag of chips (he makes them little and they last a while), and a bowl of pistachios (he eats the brown skin between the shell and the nut - won't eat the actual nut, but will bite the brown skin off it).... I know, I know... he's an interesting kid. Sigh. That and he prefers the skin of the weiners and apples to the actual meat or insides. Hmmmm. Anyways, he slept with me on the bed during the EEG as expected and woke on time. He was a little annoyed by the tape, glue and the little nodes attached all over his head, but he trooped through. Afterwards he ate a fruit salad at the cafeteria with us, and we went for a walk outside before our appointment with Dr. H. We met with Dr. H.'s nurse and he was weighed (36lbs!), measured (3.5') and prodded and poked. He was very cranky and bratty because of the lack of sleep. He was totally annoying, but understandibly so. The nurse alluded to the EEG results saying they looked okay... as always, a predisposition to the seizures. We also said we would keep him on the medication. After 1.5 hours of waiting for the consultation with Dr. H., we decided to leave. We requested that the results be sent to both Dr. Bratt and Dr. Wagstaff and we left a package of naturopathic test results for her interest. We were very tired, and she is never on time and Luke was overcooked, so we left. Kind of crazy, I know. We still do not have the test results (two weeks later), so we'll have to follow up, but the waiting and waiting was too painful. There were many other families with children waiting as well. Dr. H. only works Tuesdays and is apparently "on call" when she's there, so she has to do rounds first... we are so tired of the lack of respect for the patients. One time we had to wait 4 hours. Anyways, everything is still status quo. I'm going to look into switching to a new neurologist for the next time... although I tried once already and they said I couldn't. We'll see.

So, other than those appointments, Luke's been fine. Seems to be plateauing, which is always a bit disappointing, but hopefully he'll surge forward again. He's in the terrible "threes" stage because all he says is "NO". It gets old fast, but it's typical so we're supposed to be pleased. He is watching more tv which is an okay thing (at least it's a typical thing!). He had another "mini-conversation" with Ms. S. the other day: He said (about a picture of a tiger with his mouth open and big teeth) "I want to close the mouth" and Ms. S. said "Why?" and Luke said "BECAUSE he's going to bite me"! Wow... just a sign of things to come I hope. I can only imagine finally getting answers to my million "Why?" questions...

Luke
